IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu re-arrested,re-appears in court

The leader of the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra, (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu on Tuesday, appeared before Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court, Abuja, according to a government-news agency.

The agency added that Kanu was brought to the court amidst tight security at about 1:40 p.m

Kanu’s appearance in court followed his re-arrest by the Federal Government and charge to court to face charges bordering on subversive activities among others.

The Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami(SAN),who made the disclosure to journalists on Tuesday in Abuja said Kanu’s arrest was made possible by the collaborative
between security agencies in Nigeria and the Interpol.

Malami further disclosed that Kanu would be taken before the Federal High Court in Abuja for continuation of his trial on charges bordering on terrorism, treasonable felony, unlawful possession of firearms and management of an unlawful society.

The Reporters gathered that the Nigerian government contacted INTERPOL for assistance in arresting and extraditing Kanu to Nigeria to face his charges.

In the process, Kanu was intercepted last weekend and immediately repatriated to Nigeria.

He was arraigned in court on Tuesday and got remanded in DSS custody till July 26 when his case will come up for continuation of trial.

The online publication recalls that the lPOB leader jumped bail in 2019 and has been on the run then until his re-arrest recently.
