Suspected armed men have shot dead a medical doctor, Precious Chinnedu Emeka, in Salka village, Magama Local Government Area of Niger state.

The Late Dr Emeka, who owned and operated a Medical Health facility in the area according to the sources was attacked in his clinic which doubles as his house at about 9p.m by armed men numbering about five.

According to the source, the armed men, one of who masked, stormed the clinic and demanded to see the doctor who was inside the compound at that time. On locating him, they took him away to unknown destination without asking for anything else than the owner of the hospital.

“When they took the doctor away, we reported to the police and the local vigilante. The following day (Thursday afternoon),the vigilante later called us that they have seen a corpse inside the bush and we were able to identify that of our oga,” the source who wants to remain anonymous, added.

Efforts made by our Correspondent to confirm the matter from the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Niger state command, Abiodun Wasiu, proved abortive.

His mobile lines could not be reached as at the time of filing this report when called several times.

Meanwhile, the Ohaneze Ndi-igbo, Niger state President, Chief Emmanuel Ezeugo, confirmed the murder of Dr. Emeka describing the killing as ‘very unfortunate’.

Ezeugo, however, added that,‘Igbo community had commenced investigation into the death of the medical doctor’.

Ezeugo, who lamented the killing of Emeka, described him as “a promising young man whose only offence is that, he is a Medical Doctor helping to save human lives in Niger state, called on security agencies to fish out his killers and prosecute them.

The Ohaneze President also appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari to order an investigation into the Emeka’s death and that of, the immediate past Registrar/Chief Executive,National Examinations Council (NECO),Professor Godswill Obioma, whose death he noted “is shrouded in mystery.”
