Police smash criminal gang in kogi,kill 2

The Police Command in kogi state says its men have smashed a dare devil criminal gang making life unbearable for peace-loving residents in the state, killing two while three fled with wounds.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for the Police Command in the state,DSP William Aya, disclosed this to the Correspondent of The Reporters in Lokoja on Wednesday in an interview.

He said the criminals, who appeared in military uniform, stormed the PYN junction, Ajaokuta, Head quarters of Ajaokuta Local Government Area of the state on Wednesday, stopping vehicles to disposed passengers of their money and other property when men of the Anti-Crime Patrol team of the Nigerian Police who swooped on them.

The police added that in the fierce gun battle between the gang and police, the police killed two of the suspects while the remaining three fled into the bush with wounds.

He assured the public that the police were on the trail of the remaining fleeing suspects, to bring them to justice.

Another source told the Reporters that the criminals were suspected kidnappers adding that the police team had recovered from them two wooden AK47, 25 assorted GSM handsets, one First among others as well as undisclosed amount of money.

Meanwhile, the Kogi State Government has praised the gallantry and swift response of the security forces in the state to secure the state from criminal elements.

Meanwhile, the Governor of the state, Alhaji Yahaya Bello,who commended the security forces for their gallantry in saving the state from criminals, has urged residents to go about their normal businesses, assuring them that “the state is battle ready to confront criminal elements and other related shenanigans.”

Bello reassured the people through his Chief Press Secretary, Muhammed Onogwu.

The Governor said:“Kogi State has no abode for criminal elements, the state exists only for law abiding persons. Whoever thinks he can engage in crime will be decisively dealt with Our gallant security forces are on ground to ensure lives and property are secured, and the State will continue to provide the needed leadership”.
