Bello gives reason for banning “Okada” in Minna

The Niger State Deputy Governor, Alhaji Abubakar Sani Bello,says that enforcement of the ban on commercial motorcycles operations in the state becomes necessary in the interest of the safety of lives and properties of citizenry and guard against
the influx of armed Fulani militia heightens in the state.

Bello, represented by his Deputy,Ahmed Mohammed Ketso, statec this when he flagged-off a joint security taskforce, charged with the responsibility of enforcing the ban.

The Reporters correspondent reports that the team, inaugurated at the Trade Fair Complex, Minna, comprises the Police, Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC), the Army, and Local vigilante group.

While urging the joint security taskforce to carry out the exercise with due diligence in accordance to the rules of engagement, the Governor said, “I urge you all not to carry out this exercise with impunity, but ensure you maintain the rules of engagement”.

The Governor,who however, reminded the joint taskforce that movement for private motorcycles owners remained 6a.m till 9p.m,said whoever violates the ban would be prosecuted,no matter how highly connected or influential.

Assuring the joint taskforce of his administration’s unalloyed support, Bello warned, “Anybody who disobeys the order should be made to face the full wrath of the law,because we cannot afford to enact law for protection of lives and property and people will violate it”.

In a remark, Niger State Police Commissioner, Mallam Adamu Usman assured that the state government’s policy on the ban of commercial motorcycle will be effectively enforced and within the confines of the law.

The online recalls that the state government recently announced total and indefinite ban on commercial motorcycle operation, particularly within Minna, as part of measures to address the spate of insecurity.
