The Initiative for Grassroots Advancement, (INGRA), an NGO, has condemned the recent attack of a Journalist working with Confluence Cable Network owners of Grace FM, Mr O. Odimayo, by suspected drug peddlers in Lokoja metropolis.
The NGO gave the condemnation in a statement signed by its Executive Director, Mr Hamza Aliyu, entitled, “increasing state of insecurity in Lokoja metropolis”.
Aliyu said the attack had once again brought to the fore, the dangerous and toxic atmosphere in the area around our politics and security.
“Where youths, fueled with the audacity, believe that they are “untouchable” decide to maliciously cause bodily harm on an accredited Journalist in public for doing his job, is totally unacceptable and condemnable.
“This happens and the security agencies, who are with stone distance from the scene are yet to arrest and prosecute the perpertrators.
“This is a warning sign to all persons in the forefront of raising issues about bad governance. How do drug peddlers have such temerity to unleash such harm on a Journalist on such flimsy excuse,” he said.
The NGO expressed worry over security in kogi state and called on the state government to redouble efforts in arresting instances of crime and criminality and the situation to order in the state.
