Mrs Frankly Onyekachi, Chairperson, Nigeria Association Of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) Anambra state chapter, has commended the state government for stopping extortion of motorists by independent petroleum marketers.

Onyekachi made the recommendation after the maiden edition of the Congress of the association in Awka.
Onyekachi noted with dismay that oil marketers cashed in on the recent false information about fuel increase to increase their pump price of fuel from N163.000 to N175.000 and above per litre.
The congress said the action of the state government checked the excesses of independent petroleum marketers and brought it to a halt and forced them to revert to the official pump price.
The association also congratulated Anambra Governor, Chief Willie Obiano, on his seventh year anniversary and commended him for his numerous achievements in all sectors of the state economy,
The congress made the commendation in a communiqué signed by Onyekachi and the Secretary of the Union, Mrs Uche Nworah .
The women journalists also appreciated the state government and security agencies in the state for working day and night to ensure the protection of live and property.
The communique called on the police and other security agencies to step up action to arrest some security challenges in the state, especially Onitsha and environs where pick pockets, one chance gang had gradually returned.
On the state of the nation, the congress called for a water tight security across the country, especially in terms of kidnapping of innocent school children.
The congress commended the President Muhammadu Buhari for the ongoing construction of Enugu-Onitsha express road but called for speedy completion.
It advised members of the association to be professional in their reportage and to always have the growth and development of the society at heart.
The chairperson assured members of a “progressive association”,, adding that she and her executive council planned to hold various seminars and workshops to equip female journalists in the state with the necessary skills to excel in performing their duty.
The association called on members to shun unethical practice reminding them of the need to engage more on developmental journalism and counter react anytime falsehood or hate speech werere circulated in the society.
“We are constitutionally empowered to gather stories and reports correctly, after all clarifications are made,to place the public in the right nose of good news.
“We must report to build up the nation not to destroy it,” she said.
