As insecurity of life and property continues in Niger state, gunmen suspected to be bandits were said to have abducted Shiyona Baptist Church pastor, Rev. Yohanna Gyang Bitrus in Ugwan Saye, Yakila community in Tegina, Rafi Local Government area of the state.
The abduction, according to local sources, occurred at about 2p.m on Wednesday when the gunmen stormed the community, headed to the Pastor’s house and took him away.
Our Correspondent learnt that the gunmen who fired shots sporadically, apparently to scare people away, they did not enter any other house than that of the pastor.
The abductors, few hours after the pastor was abducted, got in touch with the family and demanded for N60 million ransom, a family source told journalists.
It was, however, not possible to know if any money has been advanced to the kidnappers as at the time of this report, but a close family source expressed the family’s predicament in raising such huge sum of money.
“The family is at their wits end as they do not know how to raise that amount of money to secure the release of the abducted Pastor. The family has been managing to survive the hardship in the land.”
When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for the Police Command in the state, DSP Wasiu Abiodun, said he would get back to our correspondent when he gets details about the incident.
The PPRO however could not get back to our correspondent as at the time of this report.
