Barely 48 hours after Government Science College (GSC), Kagara in Rafi Local Government Area of Niger state regained their freedom and the state government handed 30 of them to their parents, Katch community in Katcha Local Governent Area has been thrown into confusion.
Our correspondent reports that suspected bandits invaded the area and abducted three persons; two men and a female on Sunday morning.
This time, the bandits, it was gathered are after businesss men and women/ladies, including shop owners such as relaxation spots/joints and beer parlor operators at the outskirts of the town behind the oficial residence of the Divisional Police Officer (DPO).
Sources from the area told our correspondent how the armed men in convoy of motorcycles while some came on foot entered Katcha town around 1a.m. unchallenged.
“The suspected bandits took cash and other valuables from their victims and had good time enjoying various brands of beer and other drinks for close to three hours and later they took their victims”,a source who is also living within the vicinity said.
The armed men were said to have shot sporadically into the air, apparently to scare away residents before settling down on the drinking spree.
After enjoying various brands, the armed men were said to have requested for and forcefully collected cash and other valuables from their victims before disappearing into the darkness.
The Chairman of Katcha Local Government Area, Alhaji Mohammad Baba Nna, confirmed the attack on telephone interview with our correspondent.
He said,“Some arrmed men attacked Katcha around 1am and they operated for close to three good hours and later went away with three persons who are doing business in the town and we are yet to hear from them.”
He described security challenges as becoming more alarming, adding, “They came with very sophisticated weapons and I am sure that was why even the Police men nearby were afraid to come and rescue the victims.”
