Kwara state government says it is tackling the issue of hijaab through engagements with stakeholders from the Muslim and Christian communities.
The Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, disclosed this on Monday when he held security council meeting with commanders of various security agencies in the state, assuring the people of the commitment of his administration to always take every step to protect lives and property.
The Governor,who commended the security agencies for their proactive steps,said security of lives, property remain top priority of his government.
He told the security chiefs that there were national strategies to tackle the farmers-herders’ crisis such as ranching and its funding under the National Livestock Transformation Programme.
AbdulRahzaq stressed the need for Nigerians to live in peace and harmony and respect one another’s economic rights.
He said there were renewed efforts to douse the tension between herders and farmers, through initiatives that would gradually phase out open grazing in exchange for permanent settlement for the herders.
Governor AbdulRazaq said the government woukd continue to engage all stakeholders to maintain peace and harmony in the state.
The correspondent of The Reporters, reports that the meeting also discussed proposed regulations of specific transport operators in synergy with their umbrella bodies to curb crimes.
It noted the renewed efforts of the state government to reposition Operation Harmony, to improve the mobility and joint operations among the security forces.
The online outfit further reports that the Deputy Governor, Kayode Alabi, and other members of the council attended the meeting where upcoming joint security meeting between Kwara and Niger States to curtail kidnapping, banditry and other crimes were highlighted.
Other issues considered at the meeting was a military operation planned this week in the forests between the two states, with the goal of dislodging and clearing criminal elements from the area by denying them safe harbour.
The Governor said another engagement had been slated for Tuesday to firm up government’s position on the issue.
