Acute scarcity of potable water, running to a week now, has hit Lokoja,the capital of Confluence kogi state where the Niger and Benue meet and flow as one into the bodies of water to other parts of the world.
The correspondent of The Reporters in Lokoja reports on Friday, that sequel on the problem with the attendant health hazards, the residents of the area have been having it rough getting potable water to accomplish their domestic and commercial activities.
Our correspondent further reports that the problem has been compounded by limited number of commercial boreholes, where residents can buy such type of water.
Many residents interviewed by our reporter said they had been subjected to consume untreated water, adding that where available, borehole water had become a golden commodity.
They called on the state government to look into the problem,with the urgency it demands, to avoid water borne diseases such cholera, dysentery and other communicable diseases among others.
Investigation by the online publication showed that many residents, especially those without borehole or well in their houses to flush their water systems, have resorted to defeacate outside their homes indiscriminately, thus compounding challenges associated with public health in Lokoja and its The environs.
Efforts to get the reaction of the authorities of the state water board proved abortive.
In this vein, residents have bemoaned poor network in Lokoja,a development they noted had brought alot of hardship to them in their banking transactions as well as the use of cellphone to communicate and other internet activities among others.
