The Kwara state chapter of Community policing has taken off in Ilorin, Kwara State with over 800 participants as volunteers cutting across police formations in Ilorin metropolis.
The correspondent of The Reporters reports that the scheme came into being in a bid to strengthening the community policing in the state by security stakeholders in the state.
Toward actualisation of the aims and objectives of the scheme, the volunteers and all the Divisional Police Officers in Ilorin metropolis on Saturday held crucial meeting in Okelele, Ibagun ward in Ilorin East local government area of the state.
The Alangua of Ibagun, Mal. Sakariyahu Ilufemiloye, the Senior Special Assistant on Security to Kwara State governor, Alhaji Muyideen Aliyu, an ex- Political Adviser in the state, Alhaji Saadu Salahu, the chairman of Ibagun Progressive Union(IPU), Alhaji Kuranga Morogun graced the occasion.
The chairman of Ilorin stakeholders on security, Alhaji Yusuf Abdullahi, was also part of the meeting.
Addressing the stakehoders, the Divisional Police Officer at ‘A’ Division, Ilorin, CSP Adedayo Oluwaseyi, appealed to residents to stop harbouring criminals.
He called on the people to give useful information to the police about criminals in the neighborhood, to enable them rid the state of crime and criminality.
Contributing, the Alangua,who assured the police of the community’s cooperation urged religious leaders in the area to always remind their followers on the need for them to expose criminals in the community to the law enforcement agencies.
Former political adviser to the state governor reminded the people that security was a collective responsibility, noting that security agencies could not do it alone.
He said that the appointment of three experts as security advisers by Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, underscored the importance the governor attached to security of lives and property in the state.
IPU chairman thanked the Balogun Gambari stakeholders on security matters for organising the meeting, assuring them of the readiness of IPU to do everything humanly possible to rid the community of criminal elements.
