The fierce war against kidanappers and other criminal elements making life unbeatable for the law abiding passengers on Lokoja-Okene Highway in Kogi state has recorded success with 10 suspected kidnappers arrested at Irepeni in Adavi Local Government Area by the.Kogi state branch,Hunters Group of Nigeria( HGN).
The chairman of the council.Mr Joseph Omuya Salami,who disclosed this during a press briefing in Adavi, said the the kidnappers stopped two buses sometimes last week at about 3p.m and took away 17 persons into the thick Forrest.
According to him, the authority alerted the hunters Group and they embarked on search mission to rescue the victims.
The Chairman further revealed that an average of 5 persons were kidnapped everyday on Adavi-Okene road, a development he noted had raised concern on the security status of the road.
“The men of Hunters Group arrested 10 kidnappers and rescued 17 victims who are eight women, ‘four children and five men, most of the men who were rescued are seriously injured by the heartless kidnappers and presently receiving treatment in Omeza Clinic at Kaaba Junction,”he said.
Omuya also disclosed that the ten kidnappers aged between 18 and 30,were arrested in a thick forest at Irepene. after series of operations.
The Reporters recalls that three days prior to the arrest of the latest numbers of the suspected kidnappers, the criminal minded characters waylaid innocent travellers and in the process,killed commercial drivers and led many passengers into bush for ransom before releasing them.
Few weeks ago, the state government recruited hundreds of constabularies and donated Hilux vehicles to security agencies in the state to boost efforts aimed at keeping the activities of Kidnappers and other criminals, which have recorded henious crime against innocent people, including a traditional ruler, at bay.
