No fewer than four persons on Sunday, lost their lives in an auto crash at the outskirts of Ilorin in Kwara state on Ogbomosho-Ilorin road (Otte), according to
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Kwara Command, on Sunday.
The FRSC Sector Commander in the state, Jonathan Owoade,who confirmed the casualty figure in Ilorin to the media, said that the accident happened sequel to speeding and dangerous driving, adding that 18 persons were involved in the crash.
“The accident which was as result of speed limit violation and dangerous driving involved a commercial Toyota Hilux bus carrying 18 passengers.
Quoting eye witnesses, he that the driver of the 18-seater bus was driving too close to a smoking trailer, adding that he must have hit the trailer from behind and somersaulted and went up in flames.
The sector commander, quoting
same sources, said out of 18 passengers, seven persons also sustained varying degrees of injuries while others came out unhurt.
Owoade said that the remains of the deceased had been deposited at the General Hospital, Ilorin, adding that six of those who sustained injuries were also taken to the same hospital but one other person was taken to Hebron Apata Hospital, Eiyenkorin.
According to him, no item is recovered at the accident scene, attributing the development to the fact that the vehicle got burnt beyond recognition, pointing out that the traffic control department of the Nigeria Police Force has taken over the case.
Owoade, therefore, advised motorists to eschew speeding and reckless driving among other anomalies on wheel,in their interest and the passengers.
