As most educational institutions in Nigeria resume academic activities on January 18, after months of holiday occasioned by COVID-19 and ASUU strike, Niger state government has ordered its tertiary institutions to resume on January 24 while classes commence on January 25.
The Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Science and Technology, Engr. Abubakar Baba Aliyu, who disclosed this in a statement over the weekend in Minna, directed all lecturers to ensure they are on duty posts to receive the students.
He said: “The Executive Governor of Niger state, Alhaji Abubakar Sani Bello, has approved the 24th of January, 2021 as the resumption date for all tertiary institutions across the state.”
“The Governor also reminded both staff and students to ensure strict compliance with covid-19 protocols.
“On resumption, lecturers, staff and students must ensure full compliance with the COVID-19 protocols by maintaining; physical distancing and as well avoiding large gathering of any kind.”
The commissioner stressed that wearing of face masks must be properly adhered to at all times within and outside the institutions premises by lecturers, staff and students, adding that there would also be routine temperature checks for all, including visitors into the institutions.
While assuring all stakeholders of their safety, Baba Aliyu said the ministry had also put in place measures for continuous monitoring of strict compliances with COVID-19 protocols.
He, therefore, called on Heads of tertiary institutions, lecturers, staff and non-academic workers to adhere to the new order.
