Kogi Poly uses in-house professionals to save cost—-Ag.Rector

The current management of the Kogi State Polytechnic,Lokoja say their resolve to use in house professionals in executing projects in the institution has paid off in reducing the cost of projects.

The Acting Rector of the Polytechnic, Dr Salisu Ogbo Usman, disclosed this in Lokoja when he paid unscheduled visit to the site of renovation and reconstruction of students hostels on Wednesday.

He said: “With what I am seeing, that decision to use in house professionals will be a reference point to other institutions.

“I am pleased with the quality of materials and work going on in the sites.

“These massive projects being executed at our time will become a landmark in the school. “We have set out to make a difference in ameliorating the suffering of our students.

” We put our minds to work, sourced the funds and we challenged ourselves that, as trainers of manpower for the construction industry, we can do it by ourselves to save cost.”

He attributed the success of his management to experiment the use of in-house professionals to execute projects to the passion and commitment of workforce, a development he said would ensure timely completion and delivery of the work.

Usman laudedthe contractors handling the projects for their professional ingenuity in the purchase and application of quality materials for the renovation works.

The polytechnic boss, who promised timely completion of the projects, expressed optimism that when completed, the hostels would resolve the accommodation shortfall affecting the smooth stay of majority of students in pursuit of their academic programmes in the polytechnic.

The Rector promised to sustain his open door policy to enable every stakeholder have a role to play in the delivery of the mandate of the Governor of the state, Alhaji Yahaya Bello’s avowed determination to reposition the polytechnic.

The Reporters recalls that the Polytechnic was established in December 1992 by the first democratically elected Governor of the state, the late Prince Abubakar Audu,through an amended edict No. 6 of 1994. 1994.

The institution took off in January 1993 at the Government Science Secondary School, Lokoja before moving to its current site located in Felele area of Lokoja.
