A 24-year-old teacher,Madinat Ibrahim, who allegedly faked own kidnapping said she took to the crime to rake money from her father to settle debt she incurred in the ongoing COVID-19 lockdown.
The suspect made the confession on Wednesday when the Police Command, Kwara state command, paraded her and two other suspects in the crime before journalists in Ilorin.
The suspect attributed her involvement in the crime to her collapsed business, the maltreatment she received from her step mother since she lost her mother, adding that she had not been paid as a teacher in a private school for several months.
Earlier while parading the suspects, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Muhammed Lawal- Bagega, said that Ibrahim and her two partners in the crime would be charged court soon for criminal conspiracy and kidnapping.
Represented by the spokesman of the command SP,Ajayi Okasanmi, the Commisssioner added one Nurudeen Sholagberu reported the Kidnap of Medinat Ibrahim at Oko -Olowo area of Ilorin, through the Command’s emergency telephone line.
He said the newly constituted state anti-Kidnapping team was therefore directed to take over the investigation of the case.
Lawal-Bagega explained that during investigations, it was discovered that the said the female suspect conspired with her sister, Amudalat Wahab, to arrange her kidnapp.
He said a bank account belonging to one Hammed Lekan was used to cash N250,000 ransom for the release of the suspect.
The Commisssioner noted that during interrogation, Ibrahim confessed to have faked her own kidnap to enable her get money from her father.
He assured the public of the determination of the Command to send away criminal elements from the state.
