Police in Kogi foil kidnapping attempt, recover 1 AK47 rifle

The Police Command in Kogi state says it has foiled kidnapping attempt along Okene-Okpella road and recovered one AK47 rifle.

DSP William Aya, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRP) for the Command, discdiscl this in a statement he made available to The Reporters, an online publication in Lokoja on Tuesday.

He said: “Consequent upon an information received from one good Nigerian who sighted some armed hoodlums in the bush while approaching the highway to carry out their heinous crimes, the Police patrol team attached to Okene Area Command immediately moved to the location.

” On sighting the Police, the hoodlums opened fire and the Police engaged them in a gun duel.

“When the hoodlums were overpowered by the Police, they fled and abandoned one AK47 rifle with four rounds of ammunition. The rifle was recovered.

William qouted the Commissioner of Police, Mr Ede Ayuba Ekpeji as assuring members of the public in the state of adequate security measures put in place to ensure crimes free Yuletide,.

Ekpeji, Aya said, called on the good people of the state to cooperate with the Police and other security agencies by volunteering timely and credible information on the activities of criminal elements throughout the festive season.

“The Commissioner of Police wished all Kogites a peaceful and happy Christmas celebration’s and a prosperous new year in advance,”Sys added.
