Gunmen abduct medical doctor in Kogi, NMA calls for urgent rescue

Dr Azubuike Joel Iheanacho, the Medical Director, Peace Hospital, Anyigba has been abducted in Kogi state by gunmen suspected to be kidnappers.

The state chairman of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA),Dr Omakoji Oyiguh and the Secretary, Dr Famotele Tolorunju, disclosed this in a statement after an emergency meeting of the Association on Sunday in Lokoja.

The the officials who revealed that Iheanacho was abducted at Anyigba on Saturday evening appealed to the security agencies and the Kogi State government to as a matter of urgency rescue the abducted member.

According to them, the yet to be identified gunmen stormed Dr Azubuike’s residence between 9.00 p.m to 9.30p.m on Saturday, 21st November and took him from the gate of his house and zoomed off to an unknown destination.

The association said that the abducted doctor was in a vehicle with another man with his wife at the front of his house when the suspected kidnappers, armed to the teeth, struck and ordered the other two occupants in the car out while they left with Iheanacho.

“Dr Azubuike Joel Iheanacho was kidnapped in front of his house at Anyigba in Dekina Local Government Area of Kogi State. He was in a vehicle with another man and the wife when the kidnappers ordered the other two out of the car,” NMA added.

The state chairman and the secretary said the association had reported the ugly incident to the security agencies and the State government for intervention that would lead to the rescue of their abducted member, immediately.

Two members of the association in the state: Dr Ebiloma Yahaya Aduku of Zonal hospital, Ankpa and Dr Kelechi Mgbahurike of Christ the king Hospital Anyigba who had earlier been abducted on October 6 by kidnappers were later rescued by the security agencies.

The Reporters reports that the state government has not relented effort in a bid to arrest kidnapping and other crime in the state as it synergised with the police to establish two mobile police stations in Okene and Kabba-Obajana road respectively,among other security measures.
