Towards a New Nigeria, an NGO, has called on the Government to meet the demands of the youth for effective security,good governance as well as the restructuring of the country.
Such restructure, it added, also include deep reform of the country’s security architecture, job creation, resolution of on ASUU demands, so that Nigerian youths could go back to school.
In a statement signed by Mr J O Yusuf and Baba A Rasak at the end of its one day meeting in Lokoja on Tuesday, the group also called for revamping of the decayed insfrastructure in the power, communication and health sectors.
A correspondent of The Reporters,an online publication in Lokoja, reports that members of the group were in Lokoja to review the state of the nation, against the background of the nationwide protest by the youth.
The group described the protest as the culmination of the long-drawn built-up of pent-up anger and frustration, over the way the affairs of he nation had been handled.
It further urged government to be more sensitive to the yearnings of Nigerians, through enhanced efforts aimed at ensure good governance.
“Leaders have behaved as if there is nothing at stake in terms of the management of the economy, the welfare of the people and the image of Nigeria and Nigerians to the outside world.
“Great opportunities to develop the country have been wasted in the past and we have never had doubt that developments we are witnessing, in recent time, will come,”it said.
The Group, however,commended the restrained response of government to the protest, nationwide and particularly, kogi state government for it’s civil approach to the handling of the on-going protest in the state.
“It is our hope that Kogi State Governor will sustain this posture,” Yusuf and Rasak said.
