Former Governor of Niger state Dr. Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu has commended President Muhammadu Buhari for the surprise incentive package for teachers in Nigeria, noting,however that such improved remunerations was long overdue.
“What President Buhari has done is indeed heart-warming, commendable and far-reaching, above all, improving on teachers’ welfare will encourage them to be more committed and bring out the best in their chosen career,” he said.
Aliyu, in a statement, noted with delight that the package was a dream come true for teachers, adding that the President had made history by surprisingly putting smiles on the faces of teachers in the country
“For the first time ever, teachers are now receiving incentive package, an acknowledgment and recognition of their critical role, not only as teachers but moulders of character of individual citizens across all spheres of the Nigerian society,” the ex-governor said.
Aliyu, who was once a school teacher, advised state governments to ensure that payment of teachers’ salary tops priority in their agenda.
This he argued was in view of their peculiar services and as well to encourage others to make teaching profession an enviable job.
He challenged teachers to reciprocate the federal government’s gesture through improved dedicated to their jobs and urged well meaning Nigerians, educationists and private individuals to always support and encourage teachers.
He reminded those in teaching profession on the need for them to be more dedicated, loyal and unwaivering in the discharge of your responsibilities as well paid teachers in your respective schools, states and to your employers.”
