Members of the Emodu Development Association(EDA) Lokoja Branch, have commended the Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Yahaya Adoza Bello, on the appointment their Son, Elder Jonah Abutu as the the Permanent Secretary, State Ministry of Environment.

The Chairman of the Association, Mr John Agada, gave the commendation in Lokoja on Monday, when he led members of the branch on a courtesy visit to the office of the new Permanent Secretary.

Mr Agada thanked Bello for his benevolence on Ofabo Community by appointing one of their own as a permanent Secretary, describing the appointment as well deserved, considering Abutu’s contribution to the development of Emodu land.

To Abutu,he said: “As a matter of fact, your appointment is well deserved, considering your immense contribution to the development of our land.

” In the area of discipline, your impact is great, in terms of economic and moral value on your students while you were a Teacher.”

Agada advised Abutu to see his appointment as a spring board that would spur him to greater heights and to enable him redouble efforts, especially in ensuring the development of the state.

Responding, Abutu thanked members of the branch for the honour, adding that their visit was a demonstration of love and an extension of synergy for oneness, peace and tranquility.

Abutu, who noted that that his appointment was not by his making but an act of God also thanked the Governorfor considering him fit enough for the exalted office.

Elder Abutu appreciated the Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources,Mr Victor Adewale Omofaiye, for creating a harmonious working relationship in the Ministry to boost productivity of workers.

He, however, appealed to people living in flood prone areas to relocate to safer places to avoid flood and its effects.

The Reporters,an online publication, reports that the advice of the new permanent secretary is coming on the heels of the rising volume of water on Rivers Niger and Benue in Lokoja and its environs.

As a result of the looming threat by flood, some residents of Adankolo quarters among others, whose houses are very close to the bank of the Niger have started relocating to areas such as GRA, Army Barrack areas, upper part of Gadumo among other areas in the state capital.

Kogi, which experienced heavy presence of flood in 2012 with corresponding consequences, is among the states NiMET predicted would experience flood in 2020.
