Chewuru Community of Edu Local Government Area of the state has appeal to the Kwara State Government for the relocation of the people of the community to a to a safer place, given the flooding which affected the area recently.
The spokesman of the community, Mallam Umar Aliyu, made the appeal when the Deputy Governor, Mr Kayode Alabi made an an assessment tour to the community as part of his visit to flood-affected parts of Edu Local Government Area of the state.
He explained that the people of the community were still counting their losses, following the downpour at the weekend which he said displaced the community and destroyed their farms.
Aliyu assured the state government that the people affected would be willing to be relocated to a safer place.
Speaking at the palace of the Emir of Lafiagi, Alabi expressed state government sympathy to the victims and assured them of the government’s support to alleviate their condition and return them to normal life.
The Emir of Lafiagi, His Royal Highness, Alhaji Saidu Kawu-Haliru, appreciated the state government for the visit and solicited for a permanent solution for the people in the area.
“This has been a yearly occurrence in my communities and I want to appeal to government at all levels, Federal, State and local government, to please come to our assistance by relocating the peoples in flood prone areas to an high hill places permanently” he said.
