Leaders in the social,econmic and political development in the Kogi Central Senatorial district have been called upon to checkmate the unfair treatment being meted out to the indigenes of the district, especially in public service in the country.
An Abuja-based Public Relations consultant, Prince Emmanuel Omadivi,made the clarion call in a statement he made available to The Reporters, an online publication in Lokoja on Thursday.
Prince Omadivi, butressed his call, by citing unfair treatment meted to the citizens of the district in the management appointments by the Lower Niger River Basin Development Authority,(LNRBDA) Ilorin, Kwara state.
The expert said:”The Basin, which has over five directorates headed by Executive Directors, has continued to share these positions mainly between Kwara State and Kogi West, leaving Kogi Central to suffer in most cases.
“The current Managing Director, who is from Ilorin, Kwara State, has with him another Executive Director while the rest, except one for Kogi Central,are occupied by Kogi West.
“The vacant positions recently announced showed Kogi West taking another Executive position.
“In another development, a vacant position of Permanent Secretary for Kogi and for which a candidate from Kogi Central was eminently qualified was given to another candidate from Kogi West.”
The consultant accused a highly placed public officer in the current administration in the country,who is from kogi west, of responsible for the in the unfair appointment in LNRBDA.
He expressed concern that leaders from Kogi Central were so busy that they hardly had time to check mate the ugly and serious anomaly.
The consultant noted that LNRBDA, one of the basins created by the Federal government to provide potable water for drinking and irrigation for agricultural activities, had not been fair to Kogi Central, despite the fact the district is one of its supposedly catchment areas.
Prince Omadivi, an indigene of the district who recalled that President Buhari recently charged all his lieutenants to start defending his government, reminded the president “that honesty can only be ascribed to himself alone.”
He, therefore, called on Buhari to do more in checking glarring instances of corruption and nepotism among many of his lieutenants, to make his fight against corruption much more meaningful.
The consultant noted that “Written examination and oral test are usually arranged for would-be Permanent Secretaries but whenever nepotism is at work, the best are weeded out for mediocres.”
“All said and done,the leaders from Kogi Central are so busy that they hardly have time to check mate this ugly and serious anomaly.
“The President, while fighting the hydra-headed monster called corruption, should always look inwards to avoid talking to people who are are so deep in the business.
“Kogi Central leaders should therefore rise up to fight for their rights,” he stressed.
