All things being equal, the Federal Medical Centre(FMC), Lokoja, kogi state, closed down more than a month ago will be re-opened for services on Monday, The Reporters, an online publication reports.
Our correspondent recalls that the hospital, the largest of its kind in state, was shut by the government in the wake vandalism metted on it by some armed youths in relation to COVID-19 and other union matters.
A reliable source in the hospital, who asked not to be identified told the online publication on Friday that the union members of the hospital were set to speak to the press when the armed youths stormed the hospital.
The union members,he added, were to express their feelings toward trends concerning the deadly virus and how it was affecting their work when some armed youths stormed the centre and put that asunder.
At the end of the pandominum, some facilities in the hospital were destroyed and the staff ran for safety.
Irked by the ugly development, government put the hospital under lock and key to ensure calm and safety of life and property.
The source also told our correspondent that the management of the hospital, eager to return to work, held a marathon meeting on Thursday to fine-tune the process of bringing back the hospital to life.
“The management held a serious meeting on Thursday with a view to seeing to the possibility of re-opening the hospital.
” I am sure that by Monday, we shall return to work, Insha Allah,”he said.
Some members of the public who had earlier expressed concern over the continued closure of the hospital, described the move to re-open FMC as a big relief waiting to come to fruition, sooner than later.
“Certainly, FMC is over due for re-opening, after more than a month of closure,a development that has traumatised those that usually seek medical attention in the hospital through out the state and beyond.
“I pray and hope that what we are hearing about the re-opening of this very important health facility is true, enough is enough, a concern member of the public, Malam Adamu Mohammed, told The Reporters in an interview in Lokoja.
