Bank robbery: Police gun down 6 bandits in Niger

The Police in Niger state say they have gunned down six bandits that attacked a bank in Kagara in the state on Wednesday.

Mr Adamu Usman, Commissioner of Police in the state who disclosed this on Thursday during his assessment visit to Kagara, said the police killed the attackers during an encounter on Wednesday.

The police boss in the state ,however, said that a policeman, a private security guard, a local vigilante and one resident were killed by the bandits, adding that a boy also died due to shock emanating from the attack.

Usman said the incident occurred at about 6.30 p.m on Wednesday, adding that the attackers were forced to abandon four motorcycles as they fled.

He added that the gunmen who were unable to gain entrance into the bank were forced to abort their mission, following the superior fire power of policemen.

He commended the officers and men of Kagara division of the Nigeria Police for exibiting high level of courage and dexterity in confronting the armed gunmen.

The police commissioner promised that the command would continue to provide the required support to the officers deployed to fight criminal elements, with more working tools to perform optimally.

The Reporters,an online publication, reports that Usman had earlier visited Alhaji Abubakar Salihu, the Emir of Kagara who lauded the police for confronting the criminal elements.
