Resumption: Kwara schools witness large turn of students

Many secondary schools in Kwara state on Wednesday, witnessed large turn out of sudents in exit classes, following Federal government directive for such class of students to resume studies in preparation for their final examination.

Duaglobalnews correspondent who visited many of such educational institutions in Ilorin,the state capital, reports that many of the students were seen seated in their classes, ready to take lesson with enthusiasm.

Commenting on the development, the Principal of Cherubim and Seraphim College Sabo-Oke Ilorin, Mrs Owolabi Rachiel Ajumoke, described the the response of students as encouraging.

“We have started giving them the calculator brought from WAEC office, we sensitise the students to always give themselves social distancing, that they should not hug for not seeing themselves for long and advise them to use their facemask.

“At the same time,we make compulsory that no teacher will enter the class without everyone of them with their face mask.

“We have arranged the hall so that they can sit in social distancing manner.

“I want to enjoin the parents to always talk to their wards before they leave home, they should make sure they have their face mask.

“If parents can afford the small hand sanitiser, students should keep it in their bags, they should in addition advise them to wash hand regularly.

“Pieces of advice from we, the teachers and parents will go along way encourage the wards to adhere strictly to precautionary measures to check the spread of coronavirus in the state.

“The government should please still assist the schools, especially in the area of fumigation of classes and premises, because it is very important to the health of students, especially now that COVID-19 is very much around, she said.

Mrs Rafat Odetudun Ayo, Vice Principal (Academic), St. Barnabas Senior Secondary School said her school had commenced academic activities, preparing the students toward their final examination.

“The students turn out in large number, the turn out is encouraging, teaching has commenced, the students are cooperating and adhering to safety protocols. We make them to sit in accordance with the COVID-19 rules,” said.

She urged other students yet to resume to do so on time, to enable them partake in the preparatory lesson toward their final examination, adding that they should keep to the various precautionary measures against the spread of the deadly virus.

“We want the government to assist the teaching and non-teaching staff, although government has supplied face-masks, supply of more hand sanitiser is needed,”said.

The online recalls that at the vitual consultative meeting between the Federal Ministry of Education and the Commissioners for Education in the 36 states of the Federation resolved that exit classes should resume studies to prepare them for their final examination.

The meeting also had in attendance; the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), the proprietors of private schools, and Chief Executives of examination bodies.
