The Federal Government has declared Thursday 30 and Friday 31 July, as public holidays to mark Sallah.
Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, Minister of Interior, made the declaration through a statement signed by the Permanent Secretary,l in the ministry, Mrs Georgina Ehuriah, on Tuesday in Abuja.
Aregbesola congratulated Muslims and Nigerians, home and abroad on the occasion.
The Minister, however,called on Muslims to continue to imbibe the spirit of love, peace, kindness and sacrifice exemplified by the Holy Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon Him).
He also urged the Muslims to pray for peace, unity, prosperity and the stability of the country during the occasion, especially as the world witnesses global health challenges occasioned by COVID-19 pandemic.
Aregbosola expressed the committeement of the Federal government to increase efforts in fighting the deadly virus with the cooperation of all and sundry in the country.
He stressed that government would continue to foster peaceful coexistence, national cohesion and stability in its march toward actualising the full potential of the country.
He called on Nigerians to join hands with the Federal government in its determination to build a peaceful, harmonious and prosperous country, where the rights of every citizen, would be effectively protected and guaranteed according to the Constitution
On the novel Coronavirus,the minister advised Nigerians to take responsibility against the spread of the dreaded disease COVID-19 virus by observing all the prescribed protocols.
These protocols, Aregbesola reminded the people are; physical and social distancing, personal and respiratory hygiene and other regulations by relevant authorities.
The minister wished all Muslims a happy Eid –el- Kabir celebration.
