COVID-19:Kogi govt.distributes face marks to drivers, others

As part of efforts to curtail the spread of covid-19, kogi state Government has distributed millions of facemasks to major motor parks and markets in lokoja the state capital.

The Commissioner for Health, Dr Saka Haruna, in his remark said that the distribution of the materials was part of the precautionary measures the state government had put in place to curtail the spread of the pandemic.

Saka who was represented by the Director of Administration and Finance in the ministry Mr. James Ameh, expressed optimism that the materials would go along way in assisting the people to protect themselves against contracting the virus.

The Commissioner disclosed that the present administration under Governor Yahaya Bello would not relent efforts to protect it’s citizens from the dreaded global pandemic,adding that the measures being taken by the government was in the right direction.

Saka who noted that Kogi state remained free of Corona virus, urged the people to follow all protocols put in place by the state and the federal government to curb the spread of the virus.

In a remark, the state Epidemiologist, Dr Austin Ojotule said Corona virus was real, and called on the beneficiaries to continue to adhere strictly to the preventive measures .

Also speaking, the state Health Educator, Alhaji Yusuf Achefu, advised market women,men and drivers to always put on their facemasks to avoid contracting the virus.

IThe chairman of the National Union of Roads Transport Workers(,NURTW) Ibro motor park lokoja, Alhaji Yusuf Mohammed Kolo, Ibrahim Yakubu, the chairman of New Market Development Board, commended the state government for the gesture.

In their remarks, Alhaji Danjuma Odiba, Chairman of Lokongowoma motor park and Rabiu Aminu promised to use the materials for the purpose they were meant for.

Duaglobalnews reports that Other motor parks that benefited from the Free distribution include the European cemetery Park in lokoja,some petty traders and other roads users.
