Seven months old post graduate student murdered in Oyo state

Ibadan/Lokoja

As Nigerian students, particularly the female ones, are increasingly falling prey to the concept of man in humanity to man,with special reference to rape, another female student in the country has been murdered.

The victim, Shomuyiwa Azeezat, a female postgraduate student of the University of Ibadan, Oyo state, Duaglobalnews gathered was murdered on Friday in her apartment at Aba Ijefun, Akinyele area by unidentified persons

Azeezat,who was said to be carrying seven-months old pregnant, and a postgraduate student of the Department of Social Work in the Faculty of Education before her gruesome murder.

Akeju Olusegun,the university’s Students’ Union President in a statement said the deceased was hit with a heavy stone on the head, adfing that the unfortunate circumstance led to her death.

“During a visit to the deceased’s residence by the Students’ Union leaders,it was confirmed by neighbours that she was hit with a heavy stone on the head.

“However, investigations are on-going by the Nigeria Police, Oyo State Command,”Olusegun said.

The union’s president said that some co-tenants of the deceased had been arrested.

The state’s Police Public Relations Officers (PPRO), Olugbenga Fadeyi,who confirmed the incident also said that the suspects used stone to smash her head.

He said investigation into the incident had commenced.

According to him, the command has deployed its personnel around that axis to provide maximum protection of life and property in the area.

Some parents in Lokoja, who spoke with Duaglobalnews on Saturday on the issue expressed disgust over the increasing murder cases in the country, especially on students of higher institutions.

” It is high time the government did something urgent to check this frightening phenomenon in the life of our youths, many whom we are hoping, will take the mantle of leadership from the present generation of leaders in Nigeria,”Hajia Amina Salawu said.

Another parent,Mr Rafiu Ahmed, called on the management of higher institutions in the country to strengthen their security architecture “to safe guard the life of our children, toiling daily to obtain degree to either secure white-collar job or set up business,” he urged.
