Ilorin

One person has been critically injured while five others sustained minor injuries, following the communal clash between Lafiagi and Edogi communities in Edu Local Government Area of Kwara state, over land dispute.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for the Police Command in the state, DSP Ajayi Okasanmi, made the disclosure in Ilorin while confirming the incident to journalists on Tuesday.

“Only one person is critically injured while five others sustained minor injuries, the police image maker said.

Duaglobalnews gathered that the clash broke out on Monday night and lasted till early hours of Tuesday when one of the rival community members allegedly broke the court order by trespassing on the disputed parcel of land in the area.

This development was said to have prompted some youths from the other community to react angrily, resulting in free for all.

The online publication further gathered that a court had earlier restrained the two neighbouring communities from doing anything on the disputed land pending the determination of the substantive case.

Though scores of houses were allegedly torched during the face-off between the two warring communities,Okansami said only a kiosk where an Edogi person was selling engine oil was burnt, adding that no life was lost.

.
He said:”I can confirm to you that no life was lost and no house was burnt during the clash.

“Calm has returned to the two communities, the command, this morning, deployed a detachment of policemen to the scene of the fracas and they have arrested some people in connection with the clash,”he stressed.

The PPRO, however, could not say how many suspects have been arrested in connection with the violent incident.
