Kogi State Governent says the state is Coronavirus free despite the claim by Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) that the state finally recorded two cases of Coronavirus ravaging the world.
Duaglobalnews recalls that NCDC, on Thursday in its twitter showing the latest statistics of the presence of the virus in the country disclosed that the state had, finally recorded two cases of the dreaded disease.
However, in a swift reaction to the centre’s claim the Kogi state Commissioner for Health, Dr Haruna Audu,denied the claim, in a statement in Lokoja on Thursday.
He said: “At this moment, kogi is Covid-19 free. We have developed full testing capacity and have conducted hundreds of tests so far which have returned negative.
“We have also continued to insist that we will not be a party to any fictitious Covid-19 claim, which is why we do not recognise any Covid-19 test conducted by any Kogite outside the boundaries of the State except those initiated by us. Any attempt to force us to announce a case of Covid-19 will be vehemently rejected.
“We continue to enjoin our people to take all necessary precautions to prevent the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic into the state and give no listening ears to rumour peddlers and mischief makers.
“We are more than prepared to secure the life of our people and have no interest in playing politics with their Health concerns.”
The online publication also recalls that officials of NCDC who came to lokoja from Abuja in connection with Coronavirus issues could not achieve their aim.
On meeting the Governor of the state, Alhaji Yahaya Bello to intimate him of their mission, the governor asked them to go into self isolation before executing such mission.
The governor’s directive did not go down well with the officials and they returned to Abuja without fulfilling their such mission.
Before NCDC claim, Kogi and Cross River states were the two out the 36 states of the federation and the FCT without any record of Coronavirus case.
Coronavirus, which started in Wuhan in China December 2019, has so far recorded over 5.7 million cases and visited over 200 counties globally with casualties.
