Irrespective of certain reservations it has over the handling of the Coronavirus scourge in Nigeria, kogi state government says it remains committed to the concerted efforts aimed at fighting the pandermic coronavirus.
The Commissioner for Health, Dr Saka Haruna Audu,stated this in a release he signed and made available to journalists in Lokoja on Wednesday.
He, therefore, appealed to the people to remain calm,assuring them that government would not abdicate its responsibility in ensuring that the global pandermic disease does not spread to the state.
Duaglobalnews reports that the state has no record of the novel coronavirus since it broke out in Wuhan, China in December 2019 and has affected 34 states and the FCT, with over 6,000 cases so far.
Recently, officials of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control(NCDC), who were in the state in respect of Coronavirus issues went back to Abuja as they could not achieve their aim.
They left because the Governor, Alhaji Yayaha Bello, asked them to observe self-isolation before executing their duty in the state.
Apparently turning down the directive, the officials left the state unfulfilled.
The commissioner dismissed the notion that the government was not incline toward testing the people of the state for Coronavirusvirus.
Audu said that the state government had procured over 5,000 test kits, worth “several tens of millions of naira”, stressing that the present administration in the state had never been known in the past to be complacent with the life of the people.
He promised that government would not be found wanting “at such a critical time like this.”
