As the world battles the novel coronavirus with no end in sight, no fewer than eight medical doctors are said to have tested positive for the pandermic disease in Zamfara State.

This sad news was disclosed by the Vice Chairman of the Nigerian Medical Association,(NMA), Zamfara branch, Dr. Mannir Bature in Gusau on Wednesday.

According to him,out of about 80 confirmed cases ,of the dreadly disease recorded so far in the state, 10 per cent are medical doctors who contracted the virus in the line of duty, trying to safe lives, especially during emergencies.

The cheering news, however,is that some of the doctors have been discharged from the hospital while others are responding to treatment, according to Bature.

The vice chairman also said that 30 other doctors, who came into contact with their infected colleagues were in isolation, adding that the decision was taken to curb further spread of the virus in the state.

The NMA second in command in the state said the situation had caused negative impact on the performance of doctors in the state, especially during the pandemic.

“We only have a total of about 300 doctors in the state, including those at the Federal Medical Centre, Gusau as well as other state government’s health facilities,” he said.

Bature stressed the need for the state government to consider employing more medical doctors, to combat the spread of deadly disease.

Duaglobalnews reports that Nigeria has recorded more than 6,000 cases of the pandermic disease since its inception in Wuhan in China in December, 2019.
