Youths from Shir oro Local Government Council of Niger state have expressed concern over incessant attacks on the area by armed robbers with a call on the President, Muhammadu Buhari and federal legislators representing to deliver them.
The youths under the aegis, Concerned Shiroro Youths, made the call in Minna on Monday during a news conference.
They wondered the Senator representing Niger-East (Zone B) Sen. Sani Musa, House of Representatives and State House of Assembly members representing the area were so ineffective representation in their legislative Mandate.
The youths also called on the President increase efforts, as demanded by his oath of office by ensuring effective protection of lives and property of Nigerians by by saving them from being killed and rendered homeless by the bandits.
The spokesperson and co-convener of the conference, Comrade Bello Ibrahim,said the deteriorating security situation in Shiroro had forced his kinsmen to relocate to Minna, as their ancestral homes have been taken over by armed robbers.
“More pathetic is the fact that our leaders; Senator representing the area, Senator Sani Musa, the House of Representatives member and House of Assembly member representing Shiroro have not demonstrated personal concern to our plight”.
“Our political leaders have been very ineffective. The Governor, the Senator and all have failed to protect us,” he noted.
Ibrahim said the people of Niger-East Senatorial zone, Gwari people, have been gacing ethnic cleansing, adding with the level of abandonment had made to believe the Federal government “cares more and pay attention to a section of the country more than other parts.”
The convener lamented that about 79 communities in Shiroro were under sever attacks by bandits who, raped women and their daughters and as well carted away cattle all of which were are done even in broad day light and impunity.
“We have a Senator who has never for once come out with strong words in making a case for Shiroro people by drawing the attention of relevant authorities to our plight and that is why we have decided to come out to tell the world that our political leaders have failed us,”he said.
The group said Senator Sani Musa had not done anything to alleviate suffering of the people of his constituency , amidst armed robbery, except for empty promises.
“We have lost confidence in his representation, his leadership is ineffective as the most senior political leader of Shiroro”.
The youths therefore called on the Governor,Abubarkar Sani Bello and other political leaders in the state to rise to their responsibilities of protecting lives and property of citizens.
“Time has come for political leaders not to derelict in their constitutional responsibilities.
They recalled that attacks in eleven wards of Shiroro Local Government Area which started like a child’s play sometime in 2015 was left unchecked or not treated with desired attention had metamorphosed into the catastrophe.
Ibrahim called on the state government not to send Shiroro people at the Internally Displaced ( Bosso camp) to Shiroro “without anything being done to guarantee their safety in the villages.”
