Abuja
The Buhari Media Organization (BMO) has applauded the relocation of the tactical command and control centre of the Nigerian Army from Abuja to the theatre of operations in Borno State by the Chief Of Army Staff (COAS) Lt General Tukur Buratai.
According to the NGO the move attests to the resolve of the Nigerian Army to effectively coordinate the operations aimed at annihilating the Boko Haram Terrorists (BHT) alongside its splinter faction, Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP)”.
In a statement signed by its Chairman, Niyi Akinsiju and Secretary Cassidy Madueke in Abuja on Wednesday, BMO said that the terrorists were in a state of disarray, “as they continue to lose their sanctuaries to the sustained firepower from the Nigerian Armed Forces.”
âThe COAS presence would add impetus and renewed vigour to the fierce counter-insurgency operations in the North-East and the fringes of Lake Chad region
“It would also cut bureaucracy and speed up decision-making to the reality of the troops on the front lines,”it said.
The group noted that President Buhari had reposed much confidence in the military forces and their commanders.
“The huge equipping and retooling of the forces, with fearsome artilleries, and the delivery of military hardware on a gargantuan scale, make the Nigerian armed forces a lethal force and a booster to the morale of the personnel on the battlefield.
“BMO acknowledges the COAS action and expresses its confidence in his commitment not to leave the theatre of operations until âBHT is downgraded, they have been considerably weakened and most attacks are thwarted, equipment captured, commanders arrestedâ.
“Instructively, while leading an onslaught against COVID-19, President Muhammadu Buhari is fully committed to advancing the capacity of the armed forces in the war against violent extremistsâ.
Commending the troops’ gallant contributions against the insurgency, BMO called for a more sustained and strategic collaboration, sharing of intelligence, joint operations between all members of the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF).
According to BMO, the humongous investment in the military by the President now makes the Nigerian defence forces “almost unrecognizable.
It further noted that for the first time since the 1980s, Nigeria was once again focusing on sophistication and not just size, leading to specific enemy commanders being neutralized”.
The group, therefore, called on Nigerians to play their roles as change agents in the fight against insurgency by supporting the security agencies with useful information.
