Kidnappers have released newly wedded couple and their well-wishers they waylaid more than a week ago in kogi state, after collecting N3 million ransom, Duaglobalnews reports.
A correspondent of the online publication in Lokoja gathered that the couple, who solemnised their marriage in Okene, were returning to Lokoja after the ceremony when the kidnappers stormed their vehicles at Irepeni axis of Okene-Lokoja road.
The kidnappers were said to have whisked their victims through the bush upto Kontokarfe area, along Lokoja-Abuja road, held them captive and demanded N10 million ransom before the victims could be released.
After much pleading by the families of the victims, the kidnappers were said to have settled for for N3 million.
However, one of the victims, a male fashion designer in Lokoja, was so lucky.
He was said to have given up the ghost due to the rigorous experience he went through in the hand of the kidnappers.
One of the tribal associations in the state, whose members dominated the list of kidnapping experience, after a lull in such ugly development, was said to have rallied round with the families of the affected victims and raised N2 million.
A reliable source told the online medium that a highly placed government official rendered helping hand by donating N1 million to the cause of releasing the victims.
Okene-Lokoja road is one of the roads in the state notorious for kidnapping and armed robbery, prompting the state government in conjunction with the police to establish two Mobile Police stations recently in the state.
One was established in Okene and the other on Kabba-Obajana road to stem the rising chart of kidnapping and other crime and criminality in the state.
