Kwara lockdown: Violars face community services

Violators of the lockdown in Kwara state were on Saturday awarded community services as frog jump and sweeping among others.

A correspondent of Duaglobalnews, who visited many streets in Ilorin, the state reports that the encouraging level of compliance to the order not withstanding, some residents, especially the young ones were seen roaming the streets and playing football.

Areas our correspondent monitored include Maraba, Ipata market, Ojo gbooro, Gambari, Oja oba, idi ape, oja tuntun, agbo oba, Al-hikmah University, mandate market, Geri alimi round about, asa dam, saw mill and saw mill garage.

Others are: Taiwo through Taiwo isale, Post office under bridge, challenge, Offa garage round about, gaa akanbi-pipe line road, tanke and Ahamadu Bello way challenge back to Muritala road.

The popular Oja-Ipata Market, Ojagboro,  Gambari market and Oja-Oba (Emir’s Market,) Indi-Ape Market,  Oja-tuntun  and mandate market remain deserted as security operatives were seen around to enforce the directive.

In the same vein, vehicular movement,  including private and commercial vehicles complied to the directive.

Some residents at Ipata market, who roamef about,  playing football in the market were accordingly ordered to commence community service like sweeping within the market and frog jump, by some of the security agencies deployed in the area. 

Although,  commercial trucks carrying goods and services and essential workers were seen discharging their duties.
However shops, bars,  and markets were shut, including petroleum stations despite the fact that stations exempted from the lockdown order.

The government had said that Markets where foods and medications were sold would open on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, between 10 a.m. and 2p.m.

Kwara State Government on Thursday, announced a total lockdown in a renewed effort to contain the spread of Corona Virus (COVID-19), exactly 48 hours after it took a similar step in Offa Local Government Area.

The Deputy Governor and Chairman of the Technical Committee on COVID-19, Kayode Alabi, told a news briefing in Ilorin, saying that the order became necessary to “flatten the curve of transmission at this time.”
