The National Examinations Council (NECO) has debunked claims that it had shifted the 2020 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) and the Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) due to Corona Virus (COVID 19) spread in the country.
NECO in a Press statement signed by the Head of Information and Public Relations Division, Alhaji Azeez Sani, emphasized that only the 2020 National Common Entrance Examination (NCEE) was postponed indefinitely, due to the outbreak of Corona virus.
Sani, who cautioned Nigerians, stakeholders in education in particular, against dwelling on fake news described it as one of the barrage of fake news trending on the social media only meant to cause mischief.
Azeez said, “The trending report is untrue and as such, should be disregarded by the general public, NECO has not reviewed any of its remaining Examination Time Tables, including the BECE and the SSCE, and is it not contemplating doing such for now.”
“The Council is calling on the general public to disregard it in its entirety because it is fake news. NECO is,however, monitoring the prevailing situation and will make official pronouncement (s) on the said examinations, if the need arises.”
