The kwara state government will go into total lockdown on Friday as part of efforts to prevent the spread of COVID-19, (Coronavirus) in the state.
The Deputy Governor, Mr Kayode Alabi, who disclosed the measure, during news conference, said the exercise would commence from 6p.m on Friday till further notice.
Alabi, who is also the Chairman, Technical Committee on COVID-19,said the lockdown became necessary following the official confirmation of two people infected with the virus in the state.
He, however said, foodstuff sellers and operators of medicine shops as well as banks would be allowed to operate on Monday, Wednesday and Friday between 10a.m and 2p.m.
Alabi, however said as part of measures to ensure compliance on the new directive by residents, the committee had incorporated all the security agencies as part of the enforcement team.
He, however, expressed satisfaction with the level of compliance by the people of Offa on the lockdown order placed on the town since Tuesday.
Duaglobalnews reports that the two index cases in the state came from Offa, hence the earlier order for the total kickdown before the state-wide order.
The Chairman of the Committee thanked the Federal Government for its support for the state in fighting the pandemic.
He urged Kwarans not to panic, but strictly adhere to all the safety measures on COVID-19.
