400 % increase in price of garri angered Warri youths

Warri

It was not a funny Monday for garri sellers in Delta state as some youths in Ubeji community in Warri South Local Government Area of the state stormed the markets in the area and forced the sellers to reduce the prices of the commodity.

The youths, in venting their anger, poured away the goods of the sellers whom they accused of increasing the price of garri from N400 to N2,000, representing about 400 per cent.

Some of the affected traders, in their defence, said they jerked the price of their commodity due to panic panic buying occasioned by the raging Covid-19 pandemic in the country.

Duaglobalnews reports that the presence of the pandemic disease has forced all state governments, including Delta, to lockdown their borders to curb the spread of the pandemic.

The disease, which started in Wuhan in China in December 2019, has two governors tested positive to it and has recorded 131 cases in Nigeria as at March 31.

The development has forced vitually all state governments to restrict human and vehicular movement and close markets, to prevent its escalation.
