Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni has directed the closure of the state borders from midnight of Tuesday, March 31, 2020 to guard against importation of the dreaded Coronavirus into the state.
In a statement signed by his Director-general (Press and Media Affairs), Mamman Mohammed in Damaturu on Sunday, Bunu said the closure became necessary following the spike in spread of the virus in the country.
He expressed gratitude to Allah (SWT) for sparing the state and its people since the outbreak of the Corona virus pandemic and the zero status of the state.
Duaglobalnews recalls that Coronavrus, which has been declared as pandemic by the world Health Organisation (WHO), December 27,2019 in Wuhan, China.
The deadly disease has registered 111 cases with one casualty in Nigeria as at March 29, 2020.
The Governor said in spite of the state’s zero status, government had taken adequate measures by establishing isolation centres with equipment.
According to him, the state government has also constituted a committee on Coronavirus, under the chairmanship of the state Deputy Governor, Idi Barde Gubana.
He said a Rapid Response Team was also established to closely monitor any suspicious case “as we remain grateful that we have no single case upto this moment.”
The Governot urged the people to adhere strictly to pieces of medical advice, including to avoid over crowded gatherings and intensify hand washing.
He also appealed to the people to cooperate with government and all the relevant agencies, for a collective approach to the fight against the pandemic.
Governor Buni also called on traders in the state to shun hoarding of essential commodities to hike prices and create additional hardships forthe people.
He called on the people to be calm and steadfast in prayers to seek divine intervention to save the state, Nigeria and humanity.
