Governor Abubarkar Sani Bello of Niger state has tested negative for COVID-19 after spending some days on self isolation for been in contact with some people suspected to have been infected by the Corona Virus disease.
Duaglobalnews recalls Bello went into self-isolation and directed all his aides and cabinet members to do same.
He said he chose self-isolation because he might have come in contact with some COVID 19 confirmed cases during some official engagements, including the Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF) meeting.
Mrs Mary Noel Berje, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor who announced the cheering news in a statement in Minna, however,said despite testing negative, “Governor Bello would remain in self-isolation to play safe.”
“The Governor has demonstrated exemplary leadership qualities by subjecting himself to be tested and self isolate himself for some days,” Mary said.
According to the governor’s aide, her boss, while on self isolation,would continue to discharge his official duties from home.
Meanwhile, days after the state government announced a ban on inter and intra-state movements of goods and persons in the state, many transporters and travelers have continued to defy the order as if it is business as usual on some routes.
The state government said it imposed the ban on such movement to guard against importation of the deadly to the state.
Our Correspondent, who went round to confirm the rumour that the state government’s order has been violated, reports that in most popular motor parks within Minna metropolis,it was actually business as usual.
However, adherents of the two predominant religions in the state: Christianity and Islam, substantially complied with the order banning worships by staying away from churches and mosques on Sunday and Friday respectively.
Many of the adherents remained indoors or prayed in clusters of not more than 20 persons in some designated places.
The online medium reports that no case of COVID 19 has been reported in the state since the outbreak of the disease in Wuhan China, December 2019.
That notwithstanding, the state government has taken a number of measures including, closing down all schools.
Others are the ban on crowded worships in mosques and churches and as well enlightenment of the people on how to prevent the virus.
