The Kwahu Traditional Council in the Eastern Region of Ghana has announced lockdown of the traditional area to prevent the spread of coronavirus, as Nigerian government looks for 4,370 of persons who had contacts with those contracted COVID-19.
Duaglobalnews gathered that the directive is binding on all five Municipal and District Assemblies under it: Kwahu West, Kwahu East, Kwahu South, Afram Plains North and South.
The decision, according to the council is taken after lengthy discussions on March 25, 2020 by Kwahu Covid-19 Committee made up of Chiefs, medical doctors, other healthcare professionals and Municipal and as well as District Chief Executives in the traditional area.
The Registrar of the council, Samuel Tuffuor,said in a statement on behalf of the Kwahuhene and President of Kwahu Traditional Council, Daasebre Akuamoah Agyapong II in Ghana.
He said that “all natives of Kwahu currently living outside Kwahu should endeavour to continue to stay wherever they may be.”
This, Tuffour further urged, should be in place in the weeks to come in furtherance of postponement of all planned visits to Kwahu till further notice.
“Again, Kwahus living in Kwahu should remain in Kwahu. No travelling outside of Kwahu until the pandemic is contained”
“There is a large population of aged in Kwahu and they are vulnerable. Therefore, let us act responsibly since an outbreak will be devastating, “he added.
The registrar also advised the residents to strictly adhere to the directive issued by the President which include suspension of social gatherings.
The online medium further gathered that as at March 26, 2020, 132 COVID-19 cases, including (3) fatalities, have been recorded in Ghana while all victims of the confirmed cases are being managed in isolation.
Many individuals and groups, including Ghana Medical Association(GMA) have called on the President to immediately declare a nationwide Lockdown to avert crises.
This follows prediction that the situation may worsen in the next few weeks in that country.
Ghanaian President Akufo-Addo on Thursday, said that government was considering the lockdown proposal.
