In what looks like practicalising what they preach in consonance with the collective efforts to send the pandemic COVID-19 packing,, some journalists in Lokoja have adjusted to using elbow in exchanging pleasantry.
The Editor in Chief of an online publication; The Reporters, based in Lokoja, Alhaji D U Ahmed and the state correspondent of Daily Independent, Mr Atabo Julius were seen exchanging greeting with elbows at the NUJ Press Centre, Lokoja on Thursday.
Before the advent of coronavirus, discovered in Wuha in China in December in 2019, journalists in the area derived joy in shaking hands, a method now identified as a contributory factor to the spread of coronavirus.
They said besides avoiding contracting the deadly disease, their action also demonstrated that “example is better than precept.”
They called on other professionals to join the vanguard of wrestling the world from the claws of coronavirus.
This they said would be adherence,strictly, to measures by the World Health Organisation (WHO) and other health experts to check escalation of the disease in the country.
Duaglobalnews correspondent reports that though Kogi has no recorded case of coronavirus, it has however rolled out preventive measures to check the spread of the disease to the state.
These include, closing down all educational institutions (private and public), social distance, staying at home by residents and asking its workers on grade level 1-13 to stay at home for two weeks among others.
