Lokoja records first rain of year,residents relieved

Residents of Lokoja, capital of the confluence Kogi state on Tuesday, sighed a big relief to the intensive heat in the area as nature smiled on them with appreciable volume of rainfall, the first of its kind in 2020.

A correspondent of Duaglobalnews, an online medium in Lokoja,reports that the rain which started around 8 p.m lasted for some hours, leaving the people with friendly atmosphere that usheered in cool night and sound sleep.

Some residents, who spoke with the medium, described the rain as a great respite and thanked God for His mercy.
Malam Hassan Mohammed said:” It was a great relief that we witnessed the first rain of the year in Lokoja, a town notorious for intensive heat, year in, year out.

“We cannot thank almighty God enough, just as we pray that this is not another a respite to the terrible heat being witnessed in Lokoja but the beginning of friendly atmosphere to humanity in the world.

“Myself and my family have been sleeping outside the room for the past two months since the heat set in but today I am glad to tell you that we slept comfortable in our rooms due to the rain.”
Another resident, Mrs Agnes Omale, who expressed pessimism about the first rain ushering in beginning of a continuous rainfall said: “We do know that given the nature of Lokoja, the first rain of the year is usually followed by more heat.

” In this regard, I call on the state Ministry of Health to embark on the vaccination of the people against heat related diseases such as minigitis, in view of this year’s pattern of heat.

Duaglobalnews reports that before the rain, residents of Lokoja, sandwiched by mountain Patti and Rivers Niger and Benue, have been reeling in serious heat the reading of hover around 36 degree and 40 degree Celsius since February this year.

As at the time of this report, the atmospheric condition of Lokoja was 26 degree Celsius.
