Kogi apologises to workers over delayed February salary payment

The Kogi State Government has apologised to its civil servants over the delay in payment of their February 2020 salary.

The government attributed the development it to delayed receipt of Federal allocation to the state and a short fall in the amount accrued to the state.

In a statement issued by the Commissioner for lnformation and Communication, Evangelist Kingsley Fanwo, on Tuesday in Lokoja the state government had sourced for funds to augment what was available.

He praised the civil servants for their patience and understanding and assured that payment had begun assuring that all civil servants were expected to get paid in the next 24 hours.

Fanwo said: “We want to apologise for the slight delay in the payment of February salary to our patriotic and industrious civil servants in Kogi state.

“The slight delay was as a result of two factors:

“The allocation from the Federation Account hit the State Government account a little late.

“There was a short-fall in the Federal Allocation, occasioning the need to source for funds to augment what we have in order to pay full salaries to all our cherished civil servants.

“The bottom line, however, is that our civil servants have started receiving alerts as our finance managers are working round the clock to ensure all civil servants are paid in the next 24 hours.

“We sincerely apologise for the slight delay in payment and want to reiterate our commitment to continue to pay salaries promptly as His Excellency has directed that civil servants should be paid before political office holders.
