Ilorin
A Kwara state-based NGO, Global Hope for Women and Children Foundation(GHWCF),has launched Womens voice and leadership (WVL) Nigeria Project concepts, aimed at giving more voice and leadership role to women in the state.
The Chief Executive Officer of the NGO, Mrs Christy Abayomi Oluwole,disclosed this at the launching of the project and familiarisation of its concepts with stakeholders in gender equality business in Ilorin.
The chief executive officer said the project was in partnership with Actionaid and Global Affairs of Canada, to strengthen synergy between government and key stakeholders.
The synergy, she said, would be in the coordination, monitoring and reporting gender equality and supports for the empowerment of women and girls in the area.
According to Oluwole, the project is a five-year Global Affairs Canada development assistance designed to assist womens’ rights organisations and their movements in their efforts to eliminate discrimination and rights violations in policy and legislation.
This she further explained include; implementation and provision of services as well as check harmful social beliefs and practices in six projects states of Bauchi, Cross River, Enugu, Lagos, Kebbi and Kwara.
She added that the objective of the project was also to protect women and girls from violence, create opportunities for their economic independence and decision-making process to better the society.
Oluwole said the project would also strengthen mechanism for institutional and societal response on violence against women and girls, increase women’s access and control over economic resources.
She said:”Increase women’s participation in decision making in private and public spaces, increase enjoyment of human rights by women and girls and the advancement of gender equality in Nigeria.
“It will also enhance delivery of programming and advocacy to advance gender equality and women, girls empowernment.”
The First Lady of the state, Dr Olufolake Abdulrahbdulrazaq,who was one the important dignitaries at the occasion, expressed her commitment toward giving the necessary support that would take women in the state to limelight.
