The Funder of Mike Foundation, Dr Mike Omotosho has called on journalists in Nigeria to redouble efforts in their campaign and enligtment of the public on the dangers posed to human health.
He made the call on Saturday at the secretatiat of the NUJ FCT council during the awareness campaign on the disease by the Foundation, the National Orientation Agency and the council.
The founder described the very dangerous, had no cure but could be managed when discovered at the early stage of development.
Omotosho,who said that about 22 million Nigerians carried the disease without knowing, said prevention through test for people to know their health status remained the best check against contracting the disease.
He reminded journalists that they had crucial role to play in reducing the scourge, in view of its frightening statistics in the country.
He listed taking of alcohol, smoking and other unhealthy behaviours among others as some of the factors that could predispose people to the disease.
Speaking earlier,the chairman of the council, Mr Emmanuel Ogbeche said that the programme was one of the cardinal health project of the council to ensure good health of its members.
He commended the Foundation and NOA for collaborating with the in organising the event.
Ogbeche urged members of the council to take advantage the programme to get tested against the disease, with a view to knowing their health ststus.
Duaglobal news reports that event witnessed the screening of some journalists and other members of the public.
Some journalists who got screened commended the three organising bodies for the efforts, adding they had been educated more on what to do avoid contracting the disease.
They also promised to enlighten other members of the public on how to stay away from the disease.
