A Senator representing Niger East Senatorial district (zone B), Mohammed Sani Musa,has distributed three truckloads of different brands of fertilizer to farmers in his constituency to boost food production in the area.
The Reporters,an online publication, reports that beneficiaries were drawn from the nine local government areas that made up zone B.
They are: Shiroro, Munya, Paikoro, Rafi, Suleja, Gurara, Chanchaga, Bosso and Tafa local governments .
Musa said the gesture was also aimed at encouraging jobless youths to engage in farming for self sustenance.
At his Senatorial office in Minna, Niger state capital, Senator Musa told beneficiaries not to allow the activities of bandits terrorising the area rob the the pride of the area as the food basket of the nation
He said,” Niger-East alone has the capacity to feed the whole of Nigeria. We have been blessed with vast arable land”.
The Senator, who spoke through the Sarkin Shanu Zazzau of Suleja, Alhaji Sule Bisalla said with the enabling opportunities, farmers in Niger-East were ready and capable of contributing toward boosting the socio-economic wellbeing of not only Niger state but also the country.
Musa, wholamented the negative impact of insecurity on agricultural activities in Niger-East, reiterated the need for the Federal government to urgently tackle security challenges crippling the socio-economic wellbeing of the zone, once and for all.
He noted with concern the huge loss especially by farmers in the area said.
“The Federal government must find a lasting solution to the issues of banditry bedeviling Niger-East so as to maximize the agricultural potential of the area.
“There is no doubt that issue of insecurity has been a major clog in the wheel of progress for farmers in Niger-East,”he noted.
Present at the event include all the local government liaison officers, officials of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the local government level and all coordinators of the Senator’s local government offices.
