The Ekiti State Executive Council, in its virtual 17 Meeting of Wednesday under the Chairmanship of the Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi, has ratified and approved the appointment of a new monarch for Iyin-Ekiti.

The council deliberated and approved the appointment of Prince Adeniyi Ajakaiye as the new traditional ruler, (Oluyin) of Iyin-Ekiti,in Irepodun/Ifelodun Local Government Area of the state, among other matters.

The Commissioner for Information and Value Orientation, Mr Akin Omole, said this in a statement on Thursday in Ado-Ekiti.

The Correspondent of The Reporters,an online publication, recalls that “Oluyin” stool became vacant since Sept. 20, 2019, following the demise of Oba (retired Justice) Ademola Ajakaiye from the Oketagidigidi Ruling House.

Omole said that Adeniyi Ajakaiye was the choice of the Kingmakers among the eight candidates presented by the Oketagidigidi ruling House.

He added that the new traditional ruler scored the highest votes at the meeting of the kingmakers, which include Oketagidigidi ruling house and officials of Irepodun/Ifelodun Local Government on July 23.

Oba Ademola Ajakaiye, the 17th Oluyin of Iyin Ekiti who joined his ancestors in September after 14 years on the throne, was the pioneer Chief Judge of Ekiti state and former administrator of the National Judicial Institute, Abuja.

Meanwhile, the new Oluyin has been described as the right choice for the town.

A prominent son in Iyin-Ekiti, Chief Idowu Ayedun, described the choice of the new Oluyin as a round peg in a round hole, saying that he was “a dependable adviser to various organisations and government at various levels.

He noted that the choice was in the best interest of the town, saying that the new Oba would sustain the trend of development laid by his predecessor.

“Oba Adeniyi Ajakaiye will usher in a lot of progress and development to the town and lift the stool of Oluyin to a greater height, within and outside the country.

“He is a reliable and creative leader, available at all times not only for the development of the town, but also for his subjects.

“He is a bridge builder, a good listener, level headed individual with capability for right judgment, educationally and traditionally intelligent, God-fearing and a down-to-earth community mobiliser,” he said.
